Founded in the 18th century, Port-Louis developed around its harbour, fishing and sugar cane cultivation. In Guadeloupean Creole, Port-Louis is known as Pòlwi, and its inhabitants are called Port-Louisiens.

1. Relax at Plage du Souffleur

No visit to Port-Louis is complete without spending time at Plage du Souffleur, widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Grande-Terre. Its white sand, turquoise waters, and shallow lagoon make it the perfect place for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing beneath the coconut palms.

The beach is also equipped with picnic shelters, restaurants, and shaded areas, making it easy to spend an entire day here. In the late afternoon, the atmosphere becomes especially enjoyable as locals gather to enjoy the cool sea breeze.

2. Explore the Port-Louis Coastal Trail

To discover another side of Port-Louis, follow the coastal trail that stretches along the northern coast of Grande-Terre. This easy-to-moderate hike offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, limestone cliffs, and secluded beaches.
