Pointe de la Grande Vigie

Level : Beginner

The Pointe de la Grande Vigie hike is a 30-minute walk (about 1 km). Very easy to access, the path is dotted with signs to follow. At the extreme north of the island, this slightly wilder corner of the island overlooks the ocean and offers breathtaking views.

To get there: From Pointe-à-Pitre, allow about an hour by car. Take the N5 road, then the N8 road and finally the D122 road, named "la route de la Grande Vigie". A parking lot is waiting for you.

Le Bassin Bleu

Level : Easy

The hike of the Trace du Bassin Bleu is quite easy. It lasts about 1h30 and it is impossible to get lost if you follow the path. Suitable for the whole family, remember to be careful: the ground is muddy and slippery. At the end of the path, you will find a nice turquoise water pool where you can take a swim.

To get there: It takes about an hour by car from Pointe-à-Pitre via the N1 to Gourbeyre. Then take the Palmiste road to get to the start of this hike.

The Matouba water jump

Level : Medium

For a walk of about 1 hour and 20 minutes, you will follow a marked out itinerary. Beginning with a dip in a banana plantation, the path takes you to the heart of the forest. You will find the Saint-Louis river where the markings stop. Then follow the stream on the rocks to arrive at the water jump of Matouba. This very pretty waterfall is worth the detour.

To get there: Getting to Matouba will take an hour from Pointe-à-Pitre via the N1. Once in Matouba, signs "Saut de Matouba" will indicate the way to take. You will be able to park easily on a parking lot at the beginning of the hike.

The coast of Deshaies

Level : Medium

This hike lasts about 2 hours and 30 minutes and follows the northern cliff of Basse-Terre. The departure is rather rough: starting in the forest, you will be facing the ascent of Gros Morne. But don't worry, the path is then quite flat and the views are breathtaking. You will cross the magnificent beach of Grande Anse, for a small swimming break. Also, be careful on the way back: the hike is one way. Remember to turn around or take the bus back to your car.

To get there: To get to Deshaies, allow an hour by car from Pointe-à-Pitre via the N2. Once in the town, go to the cemetery of Deshaies, where the hike starts.

The Soufriere volcano summit hike

Level : Difficult

The hike to the top of Soufriere is a must! At an altitude of 1450 meters, you will hike the volcano for more than three hours. To make the most of it and enjoy a pleasant and cloudless weather, prefer to leave in the morning. The view from the summit is magnificent. Follow the path and the indications to avoid all risks, the volcano being always active. How to get there: The departure of the hike is near Saint Claude. Take the road to La Soufrière from this town to park at Bains-Jaunes.

Remember to be well informed before leaving for the adventure. Stay alert to natural phenomena that may surprise you: floods, heavy rains, the night that falls quickly... Be equipped with good hiking shoes and water.

To get to the starting point of these hikes, choose the practicality by renting a car with Europcar. Sedan, economy or 4x4, we have the car that suits you.
