Steps to a successful move

Everything you need to know to make your move in the best possible conditions.

Renting a van to make a move in Guadeloupe

Renting a van in Guadeloupe is not only a matter for professionals. Private individuals are also concerned. The SUV is essential for removals, transportation of bulky items to the waste disposal center and repatriation of furniture or household appliances from stores.

Which van for a move?

To find out which van you will need to carry out your move, you need to consider the size of your home and the quantity of items to be moved (beds, sofas, washing machines, dishwashers, gas stoves, armchairs, tables, chairs, TVs, high-tech equipment).

In general it is established that for :

  • a small studio: a van up to 5m3 can be sufficient, it allows to transport about thirty standard boxes

  • an apartment F2/F3: a van up to 12m3 will do (about 80 boxes)

  • a F4/F5 apartment will require a larger truck, of 14m3 (about 100 boxes)

  • Beyond that, a 20m3 truck will be more suitable for moving a large apartment or a house

Advice: for a move, plan the rental as soon as possible because, depending on the period, the demand can be high, especially on weekends.

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Because your two arms won't be enough, ask your friends and family members when they are available. This will allow you to set a date with as many arms as possible. To do this, you can do a doodle: it is a service that allows everyone to give their availability dates to identify the optimal date.

INVITE AND INFORM THE PARTICIPANTS

Organizing your move also means informing the participants. The creation of a facebook event is a flexible and efficient solution to invite available people to the move and to give them all the necessary information (addresses, map, car schedule, dresscode, etc.)

SORT

That's one less thing to carry! This is an opportunity to give away things that you no longer need and that can be used by others. Many associations will be happy to collect the clothes you want to get rid of. If you throw away, don't just throw it anywhere. Ask your town hall or your property manager for information on the days when bulky items are collected.

PACKAGE

Take boxes of different sizes, large and strong tape and bubble wrap for fragile objects. Tip: Label! Label each box with its contents, its destination and whether it is fragile.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE BOXES

For everyone's sake, try to split heavy items into different boxes. Otherwise, you could add osteopathic fees to your moving budget or risk losing a pair of arms during the move.

DISMANTLE FURNITURE

Disassemble furniture that can be disassembled to make it easier to move. Tip: Put screws and small parts in labeled plastic bags and put the instructions in them if possible. This way, you can tape the bags to the disassembled furniture for easy assembly at the destination.

MEASURE

Measure the most cumbersome objects such as sofas and check that everything fits in your future home: stairwell, doors, openings. These measurements will also help you choose a suitable truck.

RENT A TRUCK

You don't know anything about trucks? No stress, our teams will advise you and help you estimate the volume to be transported.

OPT FOR A TAILGATE

Do you have heavy furniture? A lot of household appliances? A truck with tailgate is the ideal solution to load heavy items as easily as possible. Choose the 20m3 with tailgate among our 14m3 to 20m3 vans.

TO MOVE

Bring a hand truck and straps to move everything safely. This will prevent you from hurting yourself and damaging your furniture and equipment. Ask at your rental agency, sometimes equipment is available.

TO PROTECT

We tend to forget it, but some surfaces are fragile. To avoid scratching a parquet floor or soiling a carpet, consider putting tarpaulins in your new home to protect them.

RESERVE PARKING

Try to find out where you can park on the day. Ask at the police station or at the town hall, it is sometimes possible to reserve a space. If there are merchants down the street, try to arrange for them to keep a space for you. In any case, don't leave it to the last minute.

EAT YOUR FROZEN FOOD

There will come a time when you will need to unplug your freezer. To avoid having to throw things away, eat your frozen food first.

THE MOVING BONUS

You may be entitled to a moving bonus. Ask the public service about the conditions of the moving bonus.

THE MOVING LEAVE

You may be entitled to a day off for moving within your company. Ask your human resources manager or your line manager for information.

HAVE THE CHILDREN LOOKED AFTER

Your children should be the least of your worries on moving day, especially in such a dangerous environment. Give yourself peace of mind, have them looked after.
